And after going undetected in security for minutes while mingling with the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney, the 45-year-old approached the England boss at the time.
However, at this point his attempt to board the plane to Brazil, where England would have been knocked out of the World Cup in the group stage, was halted when security forces rushed in to remove him.
During an appearance on Talk TV with Andy Goldstein, Brodkin opened up about the amusing incident.
He said: “I was with all the players, they were about to get on the plane and I joined them.

“I was wearing the suit. They all boarded in the private area of Luton Airport and I boarded between them.
“There were a lot of players, a lot of backroom staff, and they all wear the same thing.
“I’m in the thick of it as Jason and I fit in too well because nobody realized I wasn’t meant to be there.
“I mingle with the players, I don’t talk to any of them, but they all come off the bus and want to get on the plane. There’s a lot of staff, we now know it wasn’t necessary, but it was Roy Hodgson’s unit.

Brodkin continued: “I had my passport with me and I waved it to Roy.
“I yelled, ‘Roy, my phone has been off for the past few weeks. Did I make the squad or what?”
“There was security – I actually did a cameo message for the security guy who’s retiring the other day which is amazing – how he’s kept his job for so long!”
