Meanwhile, the Lions travel to Kenilworth Road knowing that a win could put them back into the playoff spots.

Luton’s newly appointed head coach is under pressure to convince fans he’s the right man for the job Rob Edwards would have been desperate to return with a result from the game against Middlesbrough.

Instead, the Hatters suffered a 2-1 defeat by a goal in the 90th minute, unhelped by the sending off Amari’i Bell 18 minutes left.

Not long ago, Millwall seemed poised to move up the automatic promotion spots after putting together a four-game winning streak.

Since then, however, they have only accumulated six points from as many games, leaving the Lions in seventh place ahead of their brief trip to Luton.

With just one win in six games Gary Rowett will be delighted that this remains the case, but a 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic last weekend did little good for the mood at The Den.

As with Luton, the forthcoming period could prove crucial for Millwall, but sitting four points behind third-placed Blackburn Rovers should serve as a reminder for Rowett and his players that they have an opportunity to fight for promotion in the second half of the season.

With Bell suspended for one game, Edwards will be forced to alter his back three if many discernible alternatives are also unavailable.

James Bree may be asked to drop into a central position with Luke Freiman possibly appear in an unfamiliar role at right-back.

With a total of seven players definitely out of contention, the rest of the squad could remain the same.

Despite the frustration of the tie with Wigan, Rowett may be opposed to making many changes to his Millwall XI.
