The flag of Ireland will be flown by Conor Shanahan.

The 19-year-old Cork drift sensation will drive his 900hp Toyota GT86 furiously at the event.

The car’s original 2.0-litre flat-four engine was swapped out for a larger 3.0-litre straight-six Toyota 2JZ engine, which was extensively modified.

It is equipped with a massive turbo, with all the work being done by Conor’s brother Jack who is not only a brilliant mechanic and manufacturer but also a very successful drifter who drives the same car as Conor, he is also one of his main competitors.

After attending the Red Bull Home Run Event in Milton Keynes, Conor said: “I had a great time. Of course it was unreal to be part of such a unique event and everything went smoothly.”

“I put on a decent show for an incredible audience, everything was perfect. Also, I met Max Verstappen before he left and took a sneaky selfie with him, so I was happy.”

And speaking about the Red Bull show run to Dublin, Conor said: “It was great to get a home run in Ireland again. 2018 was the last event in Belfast and that was my first ever gig for Red Bull. Going back a few years later and being one of the main protagonists of the show in Dublin I’m sure a lot of people will also see the drift car, it’s really cool and I’m looking forward to it and another good show for the fans.”

Conor is the latest in the current generation of Irish riders who have wowed crowds around the world. Cand started drifting at the age of 9 and competed in the Irish Amateur Championship.

After showing his talent at the age of 13 by appearing on the hit British TV show The Grand Tour, he was challenged by Richard Hammond to a drifting competition, which he easily beat.

And it wasn’t long before Conor became the youngest driver ever to win British, Irish and European professional drift rounds.

This was achieved in 2018 when he made his debut in the Drift Masters European Championship, sensationally defeating fellow countryman, DMEC and Irish national champion James Deane at the Polish round of the championship.

Conor’s success came as no surprise to his family, all of whom are heavily involved in motorsport.

His brother Jack has won back-to-back British drift championships, while his father has won multiple rally titles and his mother is the only Irish woman to have won a national championship.

David Coulthard will demonstrate the roaring power, speed and sound of Sebastian Vettel’s Championship-winning RB7 F1 car.

Speaking of his visit to Ireland, Coulthard said: “I think it’s a fantastic opportunity to take F1 beyond the circuit, so bringing the show to Dublin is great. I know the excitement will be great, I know the energy will be great, I just hope the weather is kind to us so we can put on a nice show.

“When I was in Belfast it was wet and it was quite difficult to do anything exciting. But it’s as close as you can get to doing something in Scotland – there’s a kindred spirit between the Scots and the Irish – so I’m looking forward to it.
“And I could be encouraged by my old pal Eddie Jordan to come along and spread some of his weirdness.”

The 2023 Red Bull Showrun takes place on Sunday 15 January from 4:30pm to 6:00pm along North Wall Quay in Dublin city centre.

Unfortunately, all tickets for this event were sold out within hours of the event being announced.
