Ipswich Town returned to the League One summit for the first time since September after edging out Peterborough United and seeing Plymouth Argyle take a beating at Cambridge United.

A brace from Conor Chaplin helped Kieran McKenna’s side win 2-1 in an early start at Portman Road. Frankie Kent had found the net for Posh who was out of form but Chaplin scored early in the second half and it proved enough to put them back in front.

Plymouth knew they would return to top position with an away win against the ailing Cambridge later in the day, but they struggled to beat the hosts and owed a 0-0 draw to goalkeeper Michael Cooper’s second-half heroics. Sheffield Wednesday remain third after Callum Paterson scored a 1-1 draw at Exeter City in added time.

Jake Caprice put the Greeks in front after 56 minutes at St James Park but Paterson had the last word as he found the bottom corner before time was up. Shrewsbury Town’s late show stunned Bolton Wanderers with Chey Dunkley’s injury-time header that gave the hosts a 3-2 win.

Victor Adeboyejo’s 12th goal of the season gave Burton Albion a 1-1 home draw against Derby County, while Myles Peart-Harris’ late goal propelled Forest Green Rovers to a 1-0 home win over Cheltenham Town .

Joey Barton celebrated his 100th game in charge of Bristol Rovers with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Port Vale. Birthday boy Daniel Batty scored late for Fleetwood Town to complete the turnaround at MK Dons, who sacked manager Liam Manning with the club in the relegation zones on Sunday.

Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers played out a stalemate at LNER Stadium, with the 0-0 draw maintaining the Imps’ unbeaten home record that season under boss Mark Kennedy.
