With Christmas and Boxing Day approaching, here’s a summary of what’s open and closed over the bank holidays in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.
What’s open and closed across the Waterloo area
The Region of Waterloo International Airport remains open.
Regional Administration Offices (Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and Airport Administration Offices) will be closed on Monday 26th December, Tuesday 27th December and Monday 2nd January.

Grand River Transit will be offering winter holiday service from December 19 through January 2. The full timetable is available at www.grt.ca.
Go Transit operates on a Sunday schedule on Christmas Day (December 25), New Year’s Day (January 1) and January 2. On Boxing Day and December 27, it operates on a Saturday schedule.

Regular roadside rubbish collection will take place over the holiday period, but Cambridge and Waterloo landfills will be closed to residential disposals on 26-27 December and 2 January.
The Waterloo Region Library branches are closed December 25th-27th and January 2nd. They are open from December 28th to 31st during regular opening hours.
Public health clinics, including COVID-19 vaccine clinics, will be closed December 25-27 and January 2.
All LCBO stores close at 6pm on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. A select few stores will be open on Boxing Day. Visit the LCBO website for more information. All shops close again at 6pm on New Year’s Eve and remain closed on New Year’s Day.

Boxing Day: Canada’s stores introduce early offers to attract shoppers
All beer shops close at 6pm on Christmas Eve and remain closed on Christmas Day. Seven stores will be open on Boxing Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., including three in Kitchener (250 Bleams Rd., 875 Highland Rd., 1120 Victoria St. N.), two in Cambridge (200 Franklin Blvd. and 150 Holiday Inn Dr. ) and two in Waterloo (70 Weber St. N. and 624 King St. N.)
All Beer Stores close again on New Year’s Eve at 6 p.m. and remain closed on New Year’s Day.
What’s open and closed in Cambridge
All arenas have limited opening hours between Christmas Eve and New Year’s. They remain closed on Christmas Day.
The Center for the Arts is closed from December 23rd to January 2nd.
All libraries, the John Dolson Center and the WG Johnson Center are closed on Boxing Day and Boxing Day.
The John Dolson Center and WG Johnson Center are closed on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The John Dolson Center will be open on December 29th and 30th from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
All arenas close at 12pm on December 24th and remain closed until Boxing Day. They also remain closed on New Year’s Day.

All libraries close on December 24th and remain closed until December 27th. They are also closed from January 1st to 2nd.
The Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory is closed for renovations and will reopen on December 27th. It also remains closed on New Year’s Day.
McDougall Cottage is closed for the season on December 18th.
The Cambridge Farmer’s Market is open from 7am to 1pm on Christmas Eve but is closed on New Year’s Eve.
What’s open and closed in Kitchener
The town hall offices are closed from Christmas Eve to December 27th and from December 31st to January 2nd. On other days of the week, customer service is available from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
The Kitchener Market is only open on Christmas Eve (7am to 12pm) and New Year’s Eve (7am to 2pm). Between public holidays it is closed for the rest of the week.

All arenas across the city will be closed on Christmas Eve, with the exception of the Activa Arena and the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation Trail, which are open until 11:00 am
All arenas are closed on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve, with the exception of the Activa Arena and the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation Walking Trail, which are open until 11:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

The Breithaupt Center will open on January 2 while the Rockway Center will remain closed for the holiday season except December 28 (from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.), December 29 (from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). ) and December 30 (from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
Public libraries open until 1pm on Christmas Eve before closing until December 27th. They close at 1pm on New Year’s Eve and remain closed until January 2nd.
THEMUSEUM is closed on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and Boxing Day.
The Ken Seiling Museum/Doon Heritage Village will be closed December 24-27 and January 1-3.
The Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery is closed December 24th to December 26th and December 31st to January 2nd.
The Joseph Schneider Haus is closed from December 24th to 27th and from January 1st to 3rd.
Homer Watson House & Gallery is closed from December 21st to January 8th.
What’s open and closed in Waterloo on Christmas Day, Boxing Day
The Albert McCormick Community Center and RIM Park Manulife Sportsplex & Healthy Living Center will close at 12pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on December 27th. It closes again at 3pm on New Year’s Eve and reopens on January 2nd.
The Bechtel Park Manulife Football and Sports Center closes at 11:30 am on Christmas Eve and remains closed until December 27th. It is also closed on December 28th and December 30th until New Year’s Day.
The Moses Springer Community Center is closed from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and closes again on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex will see the Swimplex closed all day on December 24, but the building will remain open until noon. The swimplex and building will reopen on December 27th and close again on New Year’s Eve. It is closed on New Year’s Day.
Waterloo Town Hall and Service Center will close at 12pm on December 23rd and remain closed until January 2nd.
