The event was hosted by Mrs Nichols and attended by trainees from Warrington and across the UK.

Nuclear Week in Parliament promotes the opportunities presented by nuclear power and brings together key stakeholders and decision makers for productive conversations that will help move Britain’s nuclear industry forward.

Warrington has a thriving nuclear sector and is a major contributor to the local economy.

The sector has been recognized for offering hundreds of high quality jobs with well known names such as Rolls Royce and the National Nuclear Laboratory at Birchwood Park.

In recent years, Warrington has also hosted the UK Atomic Energy Agency, with the UKAEA establishing the Daten Sports Club in Culcheth for their own staff.

The nuclear energy sector is expected to play a major role in the UK’s net zero ambition.

Charlotte Nichols said: “The nuclear industry is incredibly important to Warrington North.

“We are at the heart of one of the UK’s largest nuclear centres, we should be proud of the important work being done on our doorstep.”

The Labor MP added: “Birchwood is home to some exciting companies including Moltex Energy which I had the privilege of visiting earlier this month.

“The forward thinking of companies like Moltex, Jacobs, Cavendish and Sellafield drives innovation and encourages more companies to join them in Warrington North.

“The sector is a key employer supporting our city’s economy and helping us achieve net zero through clean energy.

“I look forward to bringing a similar skills fair to Warrington in the future, showcasing the incredible talent of our young people and the opportunities that are available here in our city.”
