L’Homme Press have stepped up bets behind Bravemansgame for the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase Market After Connections revealed that they “have every intention of going to Kempton with their Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase winner.”
Andy Edwards, who is a partner in the 6-1 Gold Cup opportunity, believes L’Homme Presse needs another run after his successful appearance at the Rehearsal Handicap Chase in Newcastle last month.
Trained by Venetia Williams, the seven-year-old was knocked over fences just once in six starts last season when she finished third in the Mildmay Novices hunt behind Ahoy Senor but finished ahead of Bravemansgame, who lead the market for the £250,000 boxing highlights of the day.
“Our intention is to go to the King George provided the ground is suitable for him,” Edwards told geegeez.co.uk. “After Newcastle he really needs to walk now and is ready to go. He’s moving very well and we’re very confident that we can walk.
“You can’t just keep working with it, so we have every intention of going to Kempton because he’s ready to go. He has to walk and he’s a Class 1 horse so he has to walk in Class 1 company.”
Despite going 3-3 on right-handed courses over fences, including winning the first of his two Class 1 races at the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase, Edwards remains concerned if the course will suit.

He said: “Kempton is not the ideal track for L’Homme Presse because it’s so flat and so sharp. The bottom is never very deep and that doesn’t play to its strengths.”
L’Homme Presse was withdrawn on race day for his planned comeback run at Ascot last month before winning at Newcastle as the ground was too fast and the two-time Grade 1 winner has yet to run over fences on good ground.
There hasn’t been a jump meet in the UK since Sunday due to the cold snap, but Edwards is hoping the ground will be right for his star.
“If the snow melts, which it will do on Sunday and Monday, and it sinks into the ground, Boxing Day conditions will be absolutely perfect,” he added. “I have full confidence and no doubt that it will be.”
Coral spokesman David Stevens said: “L’Homme Presse has had strong support for the King George over the last few days so bettors will welcome the news that he is an intended runner on Boxing Day. Given his impressive win at the Rehearsal Chase, it’s far from impossible that he could threaten Bravemansgame’s position at the top of Kempton Betting.”
