MIKE Releases Beware Of The Monkey Album

MIKE published Beware the monkey, today via his own 10k label. The album was completely self-produced under his pseudonym dj blackpower. Beware of the Monkey takes its title from a horoscope that MIKE read about the year of his birth (Year of the Tiger) in a Chinese restaurant, which warned him about this future. Celebrates its tradition of only releasing projects on the summer or winter solstices. Along with the new album, MIKE is sharing a new video for the album track “No Curse Lifted (rivers of love)” directed by Ryosuke Tanzawa.
Beware the monkey is a reflection on the comfort and stability that MIKE has created for himself during this time. The message MIKE conveys on the album is confident and determined, celebrating the reputation he’s built as a disruptive force in today’s rap landscape after crossing the barrier from fledgling performer to established artist.
MIKE has previously released three singles from Beware of the Monkey, including the latest “Stop Worry!”, featuring legendary Jamaican dancehall artist Sister Nancy, as well as the singles “What Do I Do?” and “Nuthin I Can Do Is Wrng,” which were coupled with videos by Xin Wang and Tanzawa. The album follows MIKE’s 3-song project One More with Wiki and The Alchemist, which was released in November, as well as his critically acclaimed 2021 album Disco! also published over 10k and completely self-produced.
Last month MIKE announced his upcoming Ipari Park Tour, with support from 454 and Slauson Malone. The most extensive North American tour of his career to date spans the continent, including headlining shows in Boston, Toronto, LA, Atlanta and Philadelphia before concluding with a show in his hometown of Brooklyn at Williamsburg’s Music Hall.
