One of the county’s newest festivals has announced it will return in 2023.

Whitehaven Alive returns next year after its inaugural event in September.

More than 6,000 people attended the event, with Scouting For Girls, Chris Moyles and Porsche all participating in the first year program.

Alive Entertainment Group’s promoters said they could not have foreseen the support the event received this year. Oliver Hodgson, Co-Founder and Creative Director, said: “It has exceeded expectations in so many ways; Sold out attendance, fantastic buy-in from both vendors and the supply chain, and support from some fantastic well-known consumer brands.

“We cannot thank the community and supply chain enough for supporting the first event and standing squarely behind our vision.

“As we head into 2023, we are thrilled to be developing the creative piece at the port while also adding an exciting program of activations and incredible artists that is sure to please everyone. As a team, we are planning at full speed for the next year, including trips to the capital to engage with exciting brands and entertainment partners.

“Whitehaven Alive is a new and exciting festival platform for Cumbria. We look forward to working with a variety of brands and businesses interested in immersing themselves in the atmosphere and coming on board with us.”

The 2023 festival will take place in Whitehaven Harbor over a three day weekend from 8th to 10th September.

The event includes headline night concerts, a food and beverage market, a lifestyle and food stage, brand activations, a trade show and family activities.

Liz Cannon, Executive Director of Alive Entertainment Group, added: “After a great first year, 2023 will really be something different, already shaping up to be a fantastic weekend and something I feel Whitehaven has been lacking in recent years has – something to bring the city together.

“Incredibly excited to be growing and making 2023 bigger and better than before, check out this space!”

John Baker, Chief Executive of Whitehaven Harbor Commissioners said: “To see so many people and so many happy faces in town and down by the harbor for the first Whitehaven Alive of the year was a real thrill. Bringing so many people to Whitehaven to celebrate together has been a huge boost for the town and has provided a fantastic platform to build on in the future.

“It is therefore very exciting to see that Whitehaven Alive will indeed return in 2023 with the promise of an even bigger and better event for the communities of Whitehaven and Cumbria. I can’t wait for the full program to be unveiled in due course!”
