Caruth Catches Bergeron to Score Final eNASCAR International Win of 2022 at Darlington; Lapcevich Claims Title – iRacing.com
NASCAR Drive for Diversity racer and 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year nominee Rajah Caruth led 20 laps, including the last three, to power the final DBOX eNASCAR International iRacing Series win on Tuesday night at Darlington Raceway by Digital Motorsports. Caruth, whose real racing career began after success at iRacing, tracked down Jean-Philippe Bergeron in the final laps to take the checkered flag, his second outing in three seasons for NASCAR’s global driver contingent, while Treyten Lapcevich finished fourth NASCAR Pinty’s Series took the championship after five races.
Caruth’s win came after he and Lapcevich were the last two drivers to pit, opting to finish from first and second on lap 46 while much of the field opted to stop midway through the 70-lap to pit at the end of the race. Even without a warning, he had enough time to catch up with Bergeron, who had taken the lead, on 10 laps of fresher tires. Caruth made up a 14-second deficit on the lead in just over 20 laps, making the winning pass with three laps to go and putting Bergeron two seconds before the checkered flag. Bergeron would remain second after 38 laps in the lead.
Lapcevich finished the international season with a 13-point lead over NASCAR Mexico Series driver Victor Barrales. The Canadian became the first driver in series history to win on both an oval and road circuit when he took a home win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in November, and also represented the series live on stage earlier this month the ADAC SimRacing Expo when he finished third at Daytona. Ultimately, Lapcevich had four top-five finishes in five starts and never finished worse than sixth in a race.
