Mountaineers Travel to Durham for Thursday Evening Clash with NC Central

BOONE, NC — The App State women’s basketball team (3-5) will travel to Durham, NC on Thursday to take on North Carolina Central (3-7). Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. and the game will be available to stream on the NCCU Sports Network.

Scouting North Carolina Central

NC Central is 3-7 (0-0 MEAC) this season. The Eagles opened the season with a 69-56 win over Johnson C. Smith (Nov. 7) and ended a four-game losing streak by beating NC Wesleyan (Nov. 22). NCCU also posted an away win against Chicago State (Dec. 3) before falling to Memphis (Dec. 8).

Jerni Kiaku is the Eagles’ leading scorer averaging 10.4 points per game, while Blessing Okoh leads the team with an average of 5.2 points per game. Kira Lowery and Tippy Robertson shared the lead in assists with 27 each on the season and an average of 2.7 per game.

Last season NCCU went 5-20 (3-11 MEAC). In the Quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament, the 7th-seeded Eagles lost 58-52 to 2nd-seeded Norfolk State. During the regular season, NC Central notched victories over Johnson & Wales, Delaware State, St. Andrews, and South Carolina State.

The Mountaineers will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan on December 17 at 12 p.m. to take on Big Ten contender Michigan, who is ranked 19th nationally. The game will be available to stream on B1G+.
