With the first ice storm of the season hitting the Austin area, virtually every school district in central Texas postponed football games this week.

Most coaches have moved Tuesday games to Thursday after adjusting their schedules based on stadium availability. The Austin School District, in particular, was forced to use creative planning because all individual high schools except Anderson have no playable fields and must share the district’s facilities of House Park, Nelson Field, the Burger Center Athletic Complex, and the Noack Athletic Complex.

Lake Travis remains undefeated and prepares for the showdown with Bowie

In Class 6A, Lake Travis is #2 in the most recent Class 6A state poll conducted by MaxPreps, Stony Point is #9, Round Rock has advanced to #12, and Bowie is #17. …Round Rock (6-1- 2, 3-0) have moved to the top of the District 25-6A table after a five-game winning streak, including a 4-0 win over Manor last Friday. … Westwood (5-3-1, 2-1) jumped to third in his first season under former Navarro coach Chris Hellums with a 4-1 win over Vista Ridge in 25-6A. Senior Kavan Borba started the season strong with four goals and five assists. … Lake Travis (9-0-1, 4-0) defeated an explosive Anderson team 3-0 on Friday, while Bowie (9-0-3, 3-0-1) defeated Johnson by a 0-0 -Draw fought. The two winning teams top the District 26-6A standings and meet Wednesday.

Northeast, McCallum has delayed big game

In Class 5A, Rouse has moved up to No. 4 in the most recent Class 5A poll, Georgetown is No. 7, Connally is No. 8, and Bastrop remains No. 21. …. Rouse (7-1-1, 1-0-1) picked up a big win in District 25-5A last Friday with a 3-0 shutout from Liberty Hill. Brendan Fournier scored two goals and Jake Loofs had the shutout in goal. … Northeast and McCallum remain on a collision course in 24-5A after the ice storm pushed Tuesday’s showdown at Nelson Field until Thursday. Northeast (6-2-1, 2-0) was led by Roger Amador, who scored five goals in two district games after scoring a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-2 win over Travis. … McCallum (3-2, 2-0) sped past 4-1 behind LBJ by two goals Liam “Spidey” Plum. …In Class 4A and below Taylors No. 23 in the state poll. St. Michaels is No. 11 in the TAPPS state poll.

McNeil: A late Austin Amaya penalty propelled the Mavs to a 2-1 win over last season’s 25-6A favorite Vandegrift last Friday, surprising McNeil (5-3-3 overall) to 1-0-1 and the second place looks like another tight district race.
