Hounslow Winter Lights Community Event

Hounslow Council has sponsored festive community events in the Borough’s town centers to bring the community together. The events have also been credited with increasing footfall, benefiting local retailers during the festive season.

Through the new small grant program for celebratory community events, the Council supported:

  • Hounslow Town Center Winter Nights organized by Creative People & Places Hounslow.
  • Feltham’s Winters Night Carnival organized by Feltham Arts.
  • Chiswick’s Christmas lights are switched on and a Christmas tree is organized by councilor Joanna Biddolph, parishioner for Chiswick Gunnersbury.
  • Brentford’s Christmas Market supported by Brentford Voice.
  • Isleworth’s Festive Market and carols on Saturdays supported by the South Street Café.

Hounslow Council Chairperson Councilor Shantanu Rajawat said:

“We are pleased to support a number of festive events in our city and district centres. Our local partners have planned and produced exciting events that everyone likes. We are fortunate to have so many dedicated and hardworking groups looking to bring festive joy to our residents.

“These events provide an excellent opportunity for residents to support local retailers and distributors across the region as they meet the challenges of rising costs and lower spending. Local businesses are a crucial part of what makes our county a great place to live, and I encourage residents to shop locally whenever they can this festive season.”

At the annual Hounslow Winter Lights event, members of the community, including children, paraded through Main Street with hand-made lanterns along the set route, while street performers enlivened Main Street as the nights grew darker.

Hounslow Winter Lights organizer Lucy Thurley, program manager for Creative People & Places Hounslow said:

“Hounslow’s Winter Lights 2022 was a great event, it was wonderful to see the whole community get together, parade through the town center and enjoy the closing performance. People from across the borough made lanterns in workshops led by local artists and worked together to create an event by, with and for the people of Hounslow. Funding from the council was critical to making this event happen and the local community made it a huge success.”
