Carabao Cup draw LIVE! Man United to host Charlton as Man City face Southampton in quarter-finals

The quarter-final line-up for the Carabao Cup 2022/23 is set. Manchester City secured their place in the last eight on Thursday night after beating fierce rivals Liverpool 3-2 in a thrilling affair at the Etihad Stadium. The reward for that breathless victory was the trip against well-known opponents Southampton at next month’s St Mary’s.
Charlton Athletic were the only non-Premier League club in the quarter-finals and are next up for a tough challenge against Manchester United at Old Trafford after beating Premier League side Brighton on penalties following a goalless draw at The Valley on Wednesday night.
Two sides currently occupying places in the Premier League relegation zone – Nottingham Forest and Wolves – will also clash at the City Ground for a place in the semi-finals of English football’s second domestic cup competition, with Eddie Howes Newcastle also hosting Leicester in a fast Replay of their next league fixture which will be played at King Power Stadium on Boxing Day.

Charlton is the only non-premier league team still in the Carabao Cup draw.
The third-rate contenders stunned top division side Brighton after a goalless penalty shoot-out on Wednesday, while Manchester United brushed aside Burnley and Nottingham Forest were big away winners at Championship Blackburn.
On Tuesday Leicester won at MK Dons and there were victories over Lincoln and Bournemouth for Southampton and Newcastle respectively. Wolves are also still in the hat after beating lower-league Gillingham 2-0.
Kevin De Bruyne was also the target for hefty Guardiola praise after another superb display against Liverpool that included two perfect assists.
Sky apparently wanted to get interviews with both managers before the draw.

Liverpool injury update
Jurgen Klopp has just spoken to Sky Sports and confirmed James Milner felt his hamstring before the first-half exit, with hopes it’s only minor.
He reveals Trent Alexander-Arnold is out due to illness and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also struggling before yesterday.
Virgil van Dijk trained as planned today after his World Cup return.
Only Ibrahima Konate is said to be coming back now. He is expected in Kirkby next week.
Van Dijk, Alisson and Alexander-Arnold should all be fit to face Aston Villa on Boxing Day.
