Mumbai, Dec. 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The GoSports Foundation organized the eighth edition of its flagship Annual Sports Awards Night, celebrating India’s sporting rise made possible by the outstanding performances of Indian athletes during the 2022 season.

This year, 12 awards were presented, including 2 each in the male and female categories for the Athlete of the Year (Olympic Sports) and Athlete of the Year (Paralympic Sports) awards to the athletes recognized by the Foundation in its scholarship programs supported for athletes.


Athlete of the Year – Olympic Sport Award (Men) went to Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (badminton doubles). The duo were integral to historic Thomas Cup winning, gold medalists at the Commonwealth Games, bronze medalists at the World Championships and finally gold medalists at the French Open. “It’s been a really memorable year for us, winning the French Open, bronze at the World Championships, followed by medals at the CWG. This recognition motivates both of us to build the momentum going forward and focus on the upcoming goals for the new season. Having broken the top-5 in the world it’s certainly exciting for us, but the key will be to maintain our consistency and we hope to perform well,” said Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy after winning the award .

“The support of GoSports has been vital to us throughout the journey that we both have had. They always have our back and their belief in us is certainly a confidence booster,” the duo added.

In the female category, Anjum Moudgil (shooting) and Nethra Kumanan (sailing) were awarded. While Anjum rose to a career world ranking of 1 in women’s 3P shooting, won a silver medal at the ISSF World Cup shooting in Baku, captured a bronze medal at the ISSF World Cup shooting in Korea and set a new national record; Nethra made history last year as the first Indian sailor to qualify for the Olympics and has been more than impressive this year. Won a bronze medal at the Asian Sailing Championships and received several other awards at national and international level.

“Like every year I’ve been waiting for December for the Annual Awards Night and it’s always the best free time to meet the amazing para champions, all the athletes from different sports supported by GoSports and of course the best The GoSports team and partners is what I’m looking at at the end of the year. I am truly grateful to my family at Gosports for believing in me and giving me the Athlete of the Year award and allowing this journey of the last 8 years with the team to be best explained as an extended family in the sports space to help us to grow mentally and physically and to be there for us all the time. Happy to be Athlete of the Year, hard work feels appreciated when the team that supports you is proud!” said an enthusiastic Anjum.

Nethra also expressed her delight at receiving the Athlete of the Year – Olympic Sport Award (Female) award. She said: “I am surprised and grateful to have received this award tonight. It has been a long and tough year I ended well with an Asian gold with gosports and dream sports who have stood by me through everything was extremely satisfying The DreamGold program presented by the Dream Sports Foundation has an essential role in the major progress I’ve made this year and I can’t wait to see what next year has in store.”

Female Athlete of the Year – Olympic Sport Award (Women)
Winner – Anjum Moudgil (Shooting) – Rise to career 1st in women’s triple shooting, won a silver medal at the ISSF World Cup shooting in Baku, won a bronze medal at the ISSF World Cup shooting in Korea, and presented a new national record.
Nethra Kumanan (Sailing) – Made history last year as the first Indian sailor to qualify for the Olympics and has been beyond impressive this year. Won a bronze medal at the Asian Sailing Championships and received several other awards at national and international level.

Athlete of the Year – Paralympic Sports Award (Male)
Winner – Sumit Antil (para javelin) – Since winning the gold medal after breaking three world records at the Tokyo Paralympics last year, he seems to have only gotten better this year. Broke his own world record again this year with a monstrous throw.

Female Athlete of the Year – Paralympic Sports Awards (Women)
Winner – Parul Parmar (Para-Badminton) – The 49-year-old enjoyed a dominant season during which she won multiple medals at international Para-Badminton competitions, with the crowning moment of the season coming with a bronze medal win at the BWF Para-2022. Badminton World Championship, Japan.

Jyoti Balyan (Para Archer) – Last year she was the only Indian archer at the Paralympics in Tokyo. This year she has continued to climb, winning a very impressive silver medal at the Dubai Para World Archery Championships.
