Caley Thistle bolster boardroom by appointing retired knee surgeon Panos Thomas

A highly rated retired sports orthopedic and knee surgeon has been unveiled as the new director of championship club Caley Thistle.

A season ticket holder at the Caledonian Stadium for the past decade, Panos Thomas is now making the move to the boardroom to enhance the experience there.

Thomas was appointed Tutor in Sports Orthopedic Surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons in England and became its National Orthopedic Tutor in 2014-16.

The director is a highly qualified medical doctor

He developed the University College London UCL MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 1999 and was program director until 2010.

Thomas was a board member of the British Orthopedic Sports Trauma Arthroscopy Association BOSTAA where he was elected President (2016-2018).

As a specialist in orthopedics, he was invited to provide protection and advice during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In 2018 he supported the successful bid to host the ESSKA conference in Glasgow, Scotland, where he was a member of the board.

Thomas has been treating elite athletes for a number of years, advising the medical teams at clubs including Arsenal, Watford, Barnet, MK Dons, Brentford, Wycombe Wanderers, Leyton Orient and AFC Wimbledon.

He has advised British Fencing, British Ski Federation, British American Football League and other elite sporting organisations.

Boss welcomes “dynamic” director

Caley Thistle chairman Ross Morrison is certain the new signing will be of great benefit to the side looking to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

He said: “We believe Panos will bring a wide range of skills to both the board and the football club.

“Living in the Highlands, he’s supported the club for a decade and understands what we’re about and where we’re going.

“I am particularly pleased that he is officially joining us as he is an extremely dynamic and highly respected personality.

“Following the recent appointment of Graeme Bennett, the new skills and fresh perspectives can only strengthen us as a club and I look forward to working with Panos.”

Thomas wants to share his passion for the team with his fellow board members to move the club forward.

He said: “I am delighted and honored to join the ICTFC Board of Directors.

“I fell in love with the area and the people when I first visited my wife’s family over 30 years ago.

“Our family moved locally 10 years ago and one of my first priorities was to buy a Caledonian Stadium season ticket.

“I have enjoyed the team’s excellent run in the Premiership and of course the glorious final day of the Scottish Cup (2015).

“As the club’s new custodian, I am determined to serve its values ​​and look forward to helping the board achieve the goals and objectives that the club and our fans deserve.”
