Extraordinary plot
“Extraordinary is set in a world where everyone develops a power on their 18th birthday…everyone, that is, except Jen. She’s turning 25 and still waiting to get hers,” read a Disney+ summary. Jen shares a flat in East London with her best friend Carrie, Carrie’s boyfriend Kash, and a secretly talented cat named Jizzlord. “Jen feels unable to move forward, stuck in a dead-end job at a party shop and occasionally seeing Luke. a scaly young man with an unnervingly cool ability to fly.” Sounds intriguing and even more promising, here we are Major outsider vibrations. The show features a cast of mostly newer faces. Irish actress Máiréad Tyers (previously starring in Belfast) Jen plays while Poldark Alum Sofia Oxenham plays best friend Carrie. Bilal Hasna – co-creator of the 2022 play For a Palestinian – portrays Carrie’s friend Kash, Siobhán McSweeney – aka. Derry girlsThe Legendary Nun Headmistress Sister Michael – plays Jen’s mother Mary and snap‘s Robbie McGee plays Jen’s stepfather. Sherwood‘s Safia Oakley-Green and EastEndersNed Porteous rounds out the cast. Meanwhile, physical comedian Luke Rollason plays the cat Jizzlord. The first look is voiced by the much-hyped Isle of Wight duo Wet Leg and their groundbreaking single “Chaise Longue,” and the dialogue shares obvious witty traits with their creators’ best-known show kill Eve.
