24 new apprenticeships at Leyland Trucks on offer for applicants

One of the North West’s leading manufacturers and a leader in the commercial vehicle sector, Leyland Trucks has opened its recruitment process to accept apprentices this year.

Leyland Trucks continues a long tradition of training the company’s own talent and creating opportunities for young people in Lancashire and is offering 24 apprenticeships this year, applications can be submitted online at www.leylandtrucksltd.co.uk/apprenticeships

Leyland Trucks is part of the global automotive group PACCAR and is responsible for the design and manufacture of DAF vehicles for customers in the UK and overseas. Leyland Trucks is an innovator in commercial vehicle technology. Many of the company’s current executives and executives began their careers at Leyland Trucks through trainee programs and the company has a long track record of promoting from within.

As part of this year’s recruitment process, Leyland Trucks will recruit 12 apprentice assembly mechanics, six apprentice vehicle technicians and two apprentices facility and maintenance personnel. The Leyland-based company is also looking for two design engineer trainees who will work on new innovations for diesel and electric trucks. Following the success of Leyland Trucks’ first-ever supply chain apprentice in 2022, the company is also hiring two new apprentices for this program in 2023.

Maria Rogers, HR and Apprenticeship Advisor at Leyland Trucks, said: “The company is expanding the program across many departments and the aim with our apprenticeships is to develop a new generation of talent so that we can advance the industry in product development and in the automotive industry Vehicle can continue to lead technology, manufacturing quality and supply chain management.

“Annually recruiting apprentices and creating career opportunities within the company and across the PACCAR Group means we have the capabilities to deliver on our commercial ambitions, along with sound succession planning.”

The 2023 apprentices at Leyland Trucks will join a diverse and successful cohort from 2022 who will act as peer mentors for the new employees. Alex Kaye-Harwood, one of last year’s apprentices, said: “My five-year apprenticeship allows me to work across the product group and gain hands-on experience. I decided to do an apprenticeship because I wanted to study part-time – I’m practical, I put what I’ve learned into practice every day and my goal after the apprenticeship is to graduate with a degree in engineering.”

Jake Gledhill, Trainee Assembly Mechanic at Leyland Trucks, added: “I work on the assembly line and I’m able to put what I’ve learned into practice every day. There are real opportunities for advancement here, that was clear from day one. I am focused on completing my education and working towards becoming a team leader and climbing the career ladder.”

The apprenticeships offered at Leyland Trucks are open to all ages provided you meet the entry requirements and include degree level apprenticeships open to applicants with relevant Level 3 qualifications, including ‘A’ levels or BTECs.

In addition to academic qualifications, the company is also looking for applicants with the drive and ambition to make a difference within Leyland Trucks and the automotive industry, with a positive attitude, enthusiasm for learning and a genuine desire to build a long-term career.
