“Que miras bobo” – Bruno Fernandes recalls Lionel Messi’s iconic World Cup rant as he reposts image with Manchester United teammate

Bruno Fernandes referenced a rather infamous line from Lionel Messi during his 2022 FIFA World Cup exploits with Argentina.
La Albiceleste played the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the competition on December 10, where the latter made an epic comeback in the dying embers of the game. Argentina led 2-0 before Wout Weghorst came on from the bench.
The 1.97m tall striker scored two late goals that sent the game into extra time and penalties. Argentina won 4-2 on penalties.
After the game, Lionel Messi gave an on-pitch interview. He seemed distracted by Weghorst, who was out of the picture, leading to the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) playmaker saying:
“Que miras, bobo? Que miras, bobo? Anda para alla, bobo.”
The above words essentially mean “What are you looking at, dummy? Go away.” The moment went viral across the internet, prompting countless memes to be made about Lionel Messi and Weghorst – both nearly a foot apart in height.
Bruno Fernandes recounted this particular incident himself in his Instagram stories. He shared a story by David de Gea in which the two Manchester United team-mates were seen heading to Old Trafford ahead of their derby against Manchester City.
He’s apparently looking at someone out of the frame and that could be a casual reference to Weghorst – Manchester United’s latest signing. The Red Devils have loaned the 30-year-old from Burnley until the summer.
They have had to pay Besiktas £2.5million as a termination fee as the striker was loaned to the Turkish club on a season last summer. Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, led his side to a famous 2-1 derby victory on Saturday (14 January).
Weghorst’s take on his altercation with Lionel Messi at the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Shortly after the conclusion of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Weghorst gave his side of the story on his altercation with Lionel Messi.
The former Wolfsburg striker revealed he just wanted to show respect to the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner after the game. He said De telegraph (h/t Daily Mail):
“I wanted to show my respects to Messi after the game but he didn’t want to. I think he was still mad at me. Well, I take it as a big compliment that he now knows my name. At least then.” I did something right.”
Lionel Messi, of course, won the World Cup and the Golden Ball in Qatar. In the Netherlands, on the other hand, Louis van Gaal resigned as coach after leaving and was replaced by Ronald Koeman.
