WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair commented on a major AEW star leaving Tony Khan’s company to reunite with Triple H.
William Regal joined AEW at the Revolution pay-per-view in March 2022. He helped found the Blackpool Combat Club and was heavily involved in the world title program. He ended up costing his faction member Jon Moxley as MJF became the AEW World Champion.
In the weeks that followed, it was confirmed that Regal was written off AEW Television when he went back to WWE to work with Triple H. Ric Flair commented on the change in his podcast.
“I think it’s great. I’m a big fan. It’s a loss for Tony. Yes, of couse. Every time I saw Steve on TV, he brought authenticity into it. Yes For Hunter there isn’t a more faithful son of Ab***h than Regal, yes, and he, you know, he’s been with Hunter from the start and you know, like me. Only you know he got through his shit. I’ll never stop drinking and he’s dry.” [46:35 – 47:50]
Former WWE star Marc Mero commented on losing a championship to Triple H
25 years ago!
Today in WWE History 09/23/1996 Hershey, Pa. Wildman Marc Mero defeated Ron Simmons (Faarooq) to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship in the tournament finals.
Marc Mero joined WWE in 1996 after spending half a decade in rival promotion WCW. He won the Intercontinental Championship but dropped it to Triple H at Monday Night RAW within a month. Mero called the title loss disappointing.
“It was kind of disappointing to drop it, I think, a month later on Triple H, which was his first championship, the Intercontinental title, which he won for me. So it was a bit disappointing but like I said, I look back to life and I don’t get too involved in things that sort of come my way,” Mero added. (H/T WrestlingNews.co)
This was the first title the game won at the Stamford-based promotion. He won 14 world titles and competed in numerous WrestleManias in the Main Event. He is currently the head of the creative department of the company.
