ANALYSIS: Another week without Tyrese Maxey and just a couple of games played by James Harden has allowed De’Anthony Melton to retain a starting position on Philly’s depth chart, one he hasn’t relinquished since conquering it through November 11 18
Melton missed games here and there (the last one last Tuesday), but he also had five more started before beginning his running 13-game run, so there’s no need to worry even if/if he gets demoted to a pine , it should still produce nice numbers.
The guard was phenomenal in that No Maxey/No Harden run. As of November 18th, Melton is averaging 15+ PPG, almost 5.0 RPG, 4.0 APG, and an absolutely ridiculous 2.7 SPG per game. That’s not a typo. That’s over 2.5 steals per game from this man. In fact, he has stolen a ball in every but one of the last 12 games he has played while posting an even higher SPG of 3.0 over that span.
OG Anunoby (11) is the only player to have stolen more games than Melton (nine) with 3+ possession this season. Melton field a season-wide 12-4-3-2 lineup. Only OG is vicinity to those averages as the Raptor has higher scoring numbers but misses on the assists front at just 2.0 APG per pop.
Melton has had one of his most productive weeks of the season, posting a super-efficient 1.13 fps despite playing 43, 29, and 38mp in his last three games. The average line in these three is 20-5-3-3 with five (!) 3PM per game. Boiling hot.
