Flathead, Glacier girls 3rd and 4th at CMR tourney

GREAT FALLS – Girls’ wrestling teams Flathead and Glacier battled it out for third and fourth places at the CMR Holiday Classic in Great Falls on Saturday.

Flathead led the field after day one, but Billings senior scored 214 points to win. Butte was second with 197; Flathead scored 193 and Glacier 154.

Bella Downing (120 pounds) was the Bravettes’ sole singles champion. Mykel Lee (107) and Lucille Libby (235) finished fourth, Alivia Rinehart (145) finished fourth and Reina Koehler (107) finished sixth for Flathead.

Glacier had two individual champions in Brooke Yeadon (107) and Jessalyn Hewitt (126). Madisyn Frazier led a 2-3 finish with Jasmine Cartwright with 152, and Arian Conklin was fourth with 114.

“Jessalyn just seems to find a way to win. She ends up in crazy positions sometimes, but finds a way to win,” said Glacier coach Ross Dankers. Yeadon is so solid and methodical. She has a great feel for the winning concepts. Madisyn really struggled through a tough match in the semifinals and it was great to see her determination.”

Teegan Vasquez led the Wolfpack boys and won with 132. The senior is 12-0 this season. Aiden Krause (205) and Kaleb Shine (152) finished third in their weight classes, and Josh Melton finished fifth with 126.

“Teegan has just stayed so dominant and in control, he’s so tough at the top, it’s rare that anyone gets away without him letting them,” Dankers said. “Shine made a good move to beat a solid placer from last year’s Great Falls.”

Columbia Falls’ Justin Windauer became champion with 152. Sam Bennetts (120) finished sixth for the Wildkats and Sheridan Black (138) finished fifth.
