Katie Britt believes Alabama taxpayers do not want taxes paying for elective abortions
United States Senators Kathie Brit and Roger Wicker joined 45 other senators in launching the No taxpayer funding for abortion law. This legislation would establish a single, government-wide standard to permanently ban the flow of federal funds for abortion.
“The vast majority of Alabamaans don’t want their hard-earned dollars to fund voluntary abortions in California and New York,” Britt said.
“The Hyde Amendment saved an estimated 2.5 million lives — about half of Alabama’s population,” said Sen. Britt. “Unfortunately, radicals in the Democratic Party continue to trumpet their calls for abortion at any time and for any reason. They have now targeted the longstanding, bipartisan party Hyde Amendment, passed annually by Congress since 1976 and ensuring that federal tax dollars are not used to fund abortions. It’s time to make the Hyde Amendment and its life-saving safeguards permanent, lest the far left try to hold the nation hostage every year. The vast majority of Alabamaans don’t want their hard-earned dollars to fund voluntary abortions in California or New York. I will continue to fight to defend life, support parents, create opportunity for hardworking families, and preserve the American Dream for our children and grandchildren.”
“Most Americans don’t want their hard-earned taxpayer dollars to be used for on-demand abortions, but our current patchwork of regulations has brought years of uncertainty.” said Sen. Wicker. “The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act would simplify federal regulations and ensure that American taxpayer dollars are never used to destroy innocent unborn life.”
This legislation would make permanent the restrictions on elective abortion funding and elective abortion coverage, including the Hyde Amendment, which is currently based on annual approval. It would also eliminate Obamacare taxpayer subsidies for voluntary abortion insurance under the Affordable Care Act swap for refundable tax credits.
US Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) also co-sponsored the legislation.
“Millions of hard-working Americans believe that life begins at conception and don’t want their tax dollars to accidentally fund abortions,” Senator Tuberville said. “As a Christian and as a conservative, I share your belief that all life is sacred and every American has a right to life. That’s why I’m proud to be signing this law, which will strengthen decades of restrictions on abortion funding and better protect the unborn child.”

With Democrats controlling the Senate, he is unlikely to become Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will even allow this bill to pass in the Senate.
