2 midfielders Liverpool could sign in January

There are two midfielders Liverpool could sign in January. However, three key targets could keep them waiting while the Reds rebuild.

Liverpool’s big midfield makeover will take center stage in 2023. It’s clear Jurgen Klopp needs more options there anyway but some expiring contracts are forcing opportunities.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner will all be out of contract by the end of the season. Arthur’s loan period will also end, leaving Liverpool with an aging midfield.

So there should be new signings – but not all at once. We expect Liverpool to split their rebuild between the two transfer windows, with different players available in each.

Midfielder Liverpool could sign in January

Sofia Amrabat

There is no question that Sofyan Amrabat was the star of the World Cup. He entered as a relatively unknown player, although his performances for Fiorentina had been strong. However, now he looks like one of the best defensive midfielders after dominating games for Morocco.

And Liverpool seem impressed. Gianluca Di Marzio is just one of the journalists who recently claimed the Reds like Amrabat – and why shouldn’t they? We think he would be ideal.

Amrabat could also be available in January. His reputation has exploded and it could suit Fiorentina to make money while all the attention is on the player. A winter transfer is quite possible.

Ishmael Bennacer

Gazzetta dello Sport’s Carlo Laudisa told Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube channel that Liverpool want Bennacer. He’s a player whose contract expires in 2024, which means AC Milan are under a lot of pressure to sell next year.

This pressure could ease in January. Again, we imagine Milan don’t want to sell but there seems to be a way for Liverpool to make it happen. The Rossoneri like both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita – sending them there early could facilitate a deal, although that’s just our speculation.

Regardless, Bennacer is likely to move in 2023 and the timing to start pressuring Milan is in January.

And the ones for the summer

Jude Bellingham

It’s no secret that Liverpool want Bellingham and the latest reports suggest he is closing in on them. The Reds’ No. 1 target will certainly be a record transfer – but one that’s entirely justified.

Enzo Fernandez

We love Enzo, who later plays in the World Cup final today. He’s been a revelation for Benfica since joining Benfica earlier this year and Record, A Bola and O Jogo all suggest Liverpool love him too.

However, Benfica will almost certainly not sell in January as they will alert teams to his £100m release clause. It’s best to wait.

Moses Caicedo

Another where Liverpool might want the player now but aren’t under any pressure to sell. Brighton have a real star in Caicedo and the summer will almost certainly be if they consider offers. Sky Sports claim the Reds want him – but again don’t expect anything soon.
