’80s popstar and Strictly contestant comes to York

Crowds of fans gathered in York city center to catch a glimpse of a 1980s pop star.
Former Bros lead singer and contestant on the latest series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing Matt Goss was in York on Wednesday February 1st.
He came to play three acoustic songs in an exclusive performance at the Live Lounge YO1 radio Studios in Goodramgate for two lifelong Bros fans after winning an on-air competition to meet him in person.
Winners Elizabeth Matfin and Cheryl Unsworth, both from York, have been fans of Matt since they were teenagers – both during his time with the Bros and during his solo career.
They got to ask Matt their own questions alongside Chris Marsden, host of YO1 Radio’s afternoon show.
Cheryl said: “It was fantastic to meet Matt so close.

“I’ve been a ‘stalker’ from the start and once spent a whole night in a doorway in Maida Vale, London, just to get a look.”
Elizabeth, who runs a bridal shop in York, said: “I always believed I would marry him.
“I met him briefly in the ’90s and gave him a roll of wallpaper I made when I was 14. It said ‘I love you Matt’ over and over again!”
Matt admitted in the interview that one of his favorite things “in the world” is Yorkshire Pudding and said he wanted to try a Yorkshire Pudding Wrap while in York.

He said he enjoyed shopping in York while he was in town and interacting with the public.
YO1 Radio Managing Director Wayne Chadwick said: “We were delighted to have Matt join us at the Live Lounge. That’s exactly what we created the studio for.
“Rather than hiding in a closed building, it’s great to see fans being able to gather outside and bring extra visitors to this part of town.
“Matt spent a lot of time with the fans, posing for selfies – and it certainly caused a stir on Goodramgate. Watch this space for more of this in the future!”

Formed in 1986 with Matt’s twin brother Luke Goss and boyfriend Craig Logan, Bros is best known for their biggest hits When Will I Be Famous and I Owe You Nothing.
He collaborated with Nadiya Bychkova in Strictly Come Dancing in 2022 and dropped out in the fourth week.
