The Who Plot Summer UK Orchestral Hits Back! Tour


The Who announced theirs Is striking back! trip for the summer.


Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and the band will be joined by a full orchestra at a series of outdoor venues and an arena, beginning July 6 at Hull Sewell Group’s Craven Park.


The nine date tour also includes two nights at Edinburgh Castle, a stop at The O2 in London and shows at The Incora County Ground in Derby, Badminton Estate in Bristol, Durham’s Seat Unique Riverside, Totally Wicked Stadium in St Helens and at The 1st Central County Ground in Brighton.


Support at most gigs will come from UB40 with Ali Campbell except Edinburgh and London. Tickets go on general sale February 3 at 10am.


Each night the group will perform music from their entire career, including material from the classic albums Tommy and Quadrophenia, as well as their latest album WHO, released in 2019. Daltrey commented:


“Having not toured the UK for six years it’s great that at this point in our career we have the opportunity to visit places that aren’t on the usual tour map such as Edinburgh Castle and Derby as well as the other cities across the country where we haven’t been in decades is going to make this very special to me. This opportunity gives our UK Who fans the chance to hear our latest show which, with the addition of an orchestra, takes our music to new heights.”


Townshend added, “Roger christened this tour, first with an orchestra, ‘Moving On’! I love not having anything to lose. I’m really looking forward to bringing this show to the UK.”


The full live band of The Who currently consists of guitarist and backing vocalist Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, second keyboardist Emily Marshall, bassist Jon Button, drummer Zak Starkey and backing vocalist Billy Nicholls, and orchestra conductor Keith Levenson , lead violinist Katie Jacoby and lead cellist Audrey Snyder.
