British Cycling announces 2023 national road calendar

British Cycling is today able to announce the dates and venues for the 2023 National Road Series and National Circuit Series.
The National Road Series, held over four rounds for men and five rounds for women, begins at the ANEXO/CAMS 7th Women’s CiCLE Classic in the East Midlands, featuring previous winners such as Josie Nelson, Abi Smith, Neah Evans and Katie Archibald.
The series then returns to Lincoln for the legendary Rapha Lincoln Grand Prix, the opening round of the men’s series and the second round of the women’s series. For the 2023 edition, a new organizer will take the reins of the prestigious race after the retirements of Dan Ellmore and Peter Odam, who have been instrumental in running the race in recent years and have brought the national championships to the city in 2015 and 2021 .
The drivers will then line up for the Lancaster Grand Prix on Sunday 16th July ahead of the Ryedale Grasscrete Grand Prix in Yorkshire on Sunday 20th August. The series champions will then be crowned on Sunday, September 17 in the Northeast with the men’s Beaumont Trophy and women’s Curlew Cup.
British Cycling is actively working to secure an additional round for the Men’s National Road Series and will be providing further updates in due course. Unfortunately the 2023 Manx International Stage Race on the Isle of Man will not take place due to road works on the island but we look forward to welcoming the race back to the calendar in 2024.
The men’s and women’s National Circuit Series begins in Otley (Wednesday, June 28) before returning to Ilkley on Friday, June 30 after a successful series debut this year.
The Sheffield Grand Prix will make a welcome return to the 2023 men’s calendar, also hosting a women’s race for the first time at round four before the men’s series heads to Colne on Tuesday 25 July. Then on Friday, July 28, both the men’s and women’s series champions will be crowned in Newark.
As has been the case since 2017, there will be equal prize money in the men’s and women’s road and circuit series, as well as further details on the venue for the 2023 National Road, Time Trial and Circuit Championships, which will take place from 22-25 May. June – will be published in due course.
2022 Women’s National Road Series winner for CAMS-Basso Bikes, Sammie Stuart said:
“It was amazing to win the National Road Series – it felt like cycling was complete for me! It’s tough as I also work full time as a firefighter so finding the time to train and race can be difficult, but the results are worth it.
“The people in the sport and on my team are amazing and I am so happy to have found cycling. It was my first year of racing properly and it was a dream to race with the team in the series. I loved driving the Lancaster Grand Prix because it’s like home for me and it felt great to be on the podium there. It’s a lot of pressure to wear the leader’s jersey, but I’d rather try and keep it. I look forward to racing in 2023 and continuing to enjoy cycling.”
2022 Men’s National Road Series Winner for WiV SunGod Robert Scott said:
“The National Series was great to be a part of this year. All the races felt very well organized and hopefully next year the British racing scene can continue the success of the series.
“It was a success for me and the team to win the general classification and my standout events were the Lancaster Grand Prix and the Lincoln Grand Prix, although I ended up in a ditch!”
