Man dies after being struck by pickup in southwest Omaha

A man died Tuesday night after being hit by a pickup truck in southwest Omaha.

Police who arrived at the scene around 8:45 p.m. near 168th Street and Gold Street found 41-year-old Michael J. Thomas of Tillamook, Oregon, lying in the lanes of 168th Street when he Ridgeline, driven by Christopher Washburn, 50, of Omaha, was hit by a 2021 southbound Honda.

Thomas was transported to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy by paramedics from the Omaha Fire Department with CPR in progress. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

This accident remains under investigation by the Omaha Police Department’s traffic unit.

Researchers at the University of Sydney have reported that just three to four one-minute bursts of “huff and puff” during daily tasks were associated with a large reduction in the risk of early death.
