FOURTH person arrested after a dog mauled two people, with an 83-year-old widow fighting for her life
- An 83-year-old woman was fighting for her life in the fourth arrest following a dog attack in Caerphilly
- She remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and a 55-year-old man is also injured
- Large XL black bat cross confiscated and destroyed by Gwent police officers
- Three men aged 20, 25 and 31 and one woman aged 28, all from Caerphilly, were arrested
A fourth person has been arrested after a dog mauled two people and left an 83-year-old widow fighting for her life in a south Wales town.
Police confirmed a man and woman were taken to hospital after the attack at an address in Heol Fawr, Caerphilly, around 3.15pm on Saturday 3 December.
Officers, including specially trained firearms officers, attended, along with paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service. An 83-year-old woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she remains.
A 55-year-old man was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Gwent Police said the dog, a large black XL Bully Cross Cane Corso breed, was confiscated by officers and destroyed. No other animals were involved in the attack.

Four people have been arrested on suspicion of being responsible for a dog that got dangerously out of control and caused injuries.
Those arrested are a 20-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, all from the Caerphilly area.
They were all released on conditional bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Sedgebeer said: “Officers will investigate further as the investigation unfolds.
“It is possible that you will see ongoing police activity in Caerphilly as part of this work, but please do not be alarmed.

Police said the incident was reported to the IOPC in accordance with their normal procedures.
