Fresh image of wanted Sunderland man Alexander Carr released two weeks after murder of Michelle Hanson

Police have released a new image of a wanted Sunderland man in a bid to locate him following the murder of Michelle Hanson two weeks ago.

Michelle Hanson was found dead in a house on Brady Street in Sunderland on December 3 and a murder investigation has been launched.

Since then, Northumbria Police officers have been attempting to trace suspect Alexander Carr following the discovery of the 47-year-old’s body.

Officials have identified the 32-year-old man as a key person they urgently want to speak to. The new picture, released on Friday, shows Carr wearing a Calvin Klein baseball cap.

Independent charity Crimestoppers has also issued a £10,000 reward for any information passed solely to them leading to his arrest.

The force has urged the public not to approach him but to alert officers immediately if they have seen him or know of his whereabouts.

The case’s lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr, reiterated his earlier comments and urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “First and foremost, our thoughts remain with Michelle’s family at this devastating time and our specially trained officers will support them in any way they can.

“Your family deserves answers and we are committed to finding out what happened and bringing everyone involved to justice.

“We would like to thank everyone who has already provided information on this case, including the possible whereabouts of Alexander Carr. We are asking anyone who has not come forward or thinks they have seen him or know where he is to contact police immediately.”

Michelle’s daughter, Shannon Brown, had previously requested information on Carr’s whereabouts.

She said: “Our lives will never be the same again. All we want now is justice for our mother.

“If you have any information that can assist the police in their investigation, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

“Any little information could help. Our mother deserves justice.”

Anyone with information that may assist in locating Carr is asked to report it to police by calling 999 and quoting log NP-20221203-0434.
