Wrexham fixtures, results, National League table, top scorer, where to watch

Wrexham AFC play in the fifth tier of English football but are firmly on the rise after being bought by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021.

The north-east Wales club nearly went bankrupt twice in the last 20 years but are now hoping to return to the English Football League for the first time since the 2007/08 season – and are still looking for a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup, the oldest domestic football competition in the world.

Here you can follow Wrexham fixtures and results, where Phil Parkinson’s side ranks in the National League standings and how to follow the team that has captured the attention of fans on both sides of the Atlantic.

Where is Wrexham in the National League?

Wrexham, who play at the Racecourse Ground, are second in the National League, which is four divisions below the Premier League. They are three points behind Notts County but have played two games fewer than the league leaders. Win these and they could open their own three-point gap at the top.

In what is arguably Britain’s most competitive division, 24 teams are fighting for one automatic promotion place and six play-off places, with four relegation places at the other end of the table. The winners of the playoffs, which are contested by the teams ranked second through seven (marked orange in the table below), will advance along with the champions.

I wonder why Wrexham is part of the English football pyramid?

There was no Welsh football league when Wrexham was formed along with Swansea City, Cardiff City, Newport County and Merthyr Town. A Welsh Premier League (now known as the Cymru Premier) was formed in 1992 but these five clubs decided to remain in English football.

Internationally, all games can be streamed on National League TV.

What league could Wrexham play in next?

If Wrexham manage to win promotion this season they would be in the Second Division in 2023-24 but the owners’ ambitions are beyond doubt.

“In 10 years the plan is, now and always has been, the Premier League,” Reynolds said ahead of Wrexham’s recently televised Cup match against Sheffield United.

They would have to progress through the first tier and the championship after the second tier to reach the promised land of the Premier League…

Who could Wrexham face in the FA Cup?

Wrexham must get past Sheffield United first.

The Premier League hopefuls will want their chances at Bramall Lane, despite the Blades being knocked out of the FA Cup back in 2019 by non-League Barnet on their home turf.

The fifth round draw this time has been made – and the tempting prize for Wrexham or Sheffield United is a home game against Tottenham Hotspur.

A date has not yet been confirmed, but all round five matches are scheduled to take place in the first week of March.
