The 5 Birmingham City players linked with moves away this season and the likelihood of each player leaving in January

Birmingham City’s January transfer window could be difficult as the club’s current ownership situation leaves question marks over potential signings.

However, Birmingham City have done very well given the circumstances. Many thought they would be relegation contenders this season, but John Eustace’s side currently sit in 8th place, just two points from the play-offs.

But who has been linked to a move before January? We’re looking at all those associated with exits this season and assessing the likelihood of a winter switch…

George Hall

Rising midfield talent Hall has been linked with a fair number of clubs this season but the strongest links are Leeds United. They were constantly mentioned as admirers and said to be in pole position to secure his services.

The Blues may be hoping to hold on to Hall, but with January approaching their resolve will surely be tested.

Is an exit likely?

There is a feeling that Birmingham City could be lured into a sale if the right bid is received. An influx of funds would provide a welcome boost, and a deal for Hall would likely result in a decent windfall.

Job Bellingham

Bellingham is another top Birmingham City prospect who has been linked with an exit.

Newcastle United, Middlesbrough and Sunderland have all been mentioned as suitors, while Borussia Dortmund, who have signed older brother Jude from the Blues, have also been previously linked.

Is an exit likely?

As with Hall, City could make a decision given a suitable offer for Bellingham. The 17-year-old is under contract until 2024 but it remains to be seen whether any of the enthusiastic clubs actually reaffirm their interest in the teenager.

Kristian Bielik

Bielik has been a huge success since being loaned out by Derby County in the summer. Speculations have circulated about a possible winter return to Pride Park but Rams boss Paul Warne has downplayed the chances of a recall, while Eustace has spoken about the Poland international’s luck at St Andrew’s.

Is an exit likely?

All parties seem happy for Bielik to end the season with the Blues and he’s certainly playing well so it seems he could be one to stay past January.

Sam Cosgrove

Birmingham City striker on loan Cosgrove has made a good impression at Plymouth Argyle this season and it has been said he could be used in a trade deal to try to sign Derby County loan ace Bielik on a permanent basis .

Is an exit likely?

There’s a major catch to this reported trade deal – Cosgrove has already played for two clubs this season and he can’t play for a third. That means it’s either Birmingham City or Plymouth Argyle for the rest of the season, ruling out a move to Derby County.

It seems that staying with the pilgrims would be best this season.

Hannibal Mejbri

As is often the case with in-form loanees, Mejbri has seen speculation of a winter recall. He was signed on a seasonal contract in the summer but Manchester United have the option to call him back in January if necessary.

Is an exit likely?

Thankfully, however, that seems unlikely. Mejbri has reportedly been on loan for a full season and given his involvement with the Blues a change of scenery is not necessary.
