2 Officers Assaulted By Student At Hatboro-Horsham High School: Police

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA – Two Horsham Township police officers suffered minor injuries after being attacked by a student at Hatboro-Horsham High School on Thursday morning, police said.
Police officer Barry Ramsey was treated for minor injuries in the emergency room and released after being punched three times in the face, Horsham Township Police Department reported.
High school resource officer Mary Novak was punched in the ear but did not seek medical attention, police said.

Police said Novak called another police officer for help on a student around 11:49 a.m. Thursday who was “aggressively trying” to find another student to assault, police said.
Police said the suspect had a specific student they wanted to attack and that Novak and Ramsey prevented them from entering the classroom. The officers confronted the suspect and were then attacked, the police said.

The student – who was not named because she is a juvenile – has been arrested and is in police custody, police said.
Principal Scott Eveslage told Patch Thursday that he could not comment on the details of the incident.
“It’s a disciplinary matter relating to a minor,” Eveslage said.
The superintendent said Novak had been an employee of both the school district and the police department for several years.
“We are obviously concerned for the safety of all of our employees and our law enforcement agencies,” Eveslage said. “We wish the officers a smooth recovery.”
Police said this is the second time Novak has been assaulted at the high school this year and the third time since she took the position. In the other two incidents, students were allowed to return to school, police said.
Eveslage said these were separate incidents unrelated to the current one and that the school district had had an officer at the high school for several years.
