VFW Drive to deliver gifts on Saturday

employee reports

WAHOO – The December 17 delivery date for the 60th Annual VFW Christmas Drive is just days away. As cash and toy donations continue to come in, ride coordinators Jason and Michelle Libal continue to see a need across the county.

“Our numbers have really gone up over the past week. We hope that those in need were able to request help. Once again, our goal is to provide these families with the items necessary not only to have a great Christmas, but to survive,” said Jason Libal.

Donations were accepted until December 13th. After that date, coordinators will be busy preparing the toy bags and food boxes for distribution to approximately 120 homes across the county.

Deliveries of groceries and toy baskets will take place on the afternoon of December 17th. It is important that recipients are at home on this day as baskets will not be left unattended and no deliveries will be made on Sunday 18th December.

“Our regular drivers are looking forward to delivering again this year,” said Libal.

As a reminder, the organization avoids involving young people to help with deliveries.

“We just don’t want to put a young person in an awkward position,” Libal said.

Support for this annual campaign remains strong.

“We couldn’t do a trip like this without the amazing help from the community,” Libal said. “The Christmas drive is always a great reminder of the outstanding community in which we live. Since Thanksgiving, the support wave has been great. It is evident that once again the people of our community are ready to serve others before themselves.”
