Bielik departs: 2 nightmare scenarios Birmingham City will want to avoid in the January window

Since Birmingham City opted to hand over the reins at St Andrew’s to John Eustace earlier this year, Birmingham City have managed to put in some encouraging performances in the Championship.

For the Blues to reach new heights at this level later in the season, they may need to sign some new faces in the January transfer window.

Eustace will also be keen to retain the services of some of the existing members of his squad who have recently been linked with potential departures.

Here we’ve decided to take a look at two nightmare scenarios Birmingham are looking to avoid next month when the window opens.

Check them out below…

Krystian Bielik recalled by Derby County

Krystian Bielik, who signed a temporary contract from Derby County’s Birmingham earlier this year, has managed to put in some encouraging performances for the club in the Championship this season.

Mainly used in defensive midfield, the Poland international has proven to be more than competitive at this level.

Derby have the option of recalling Bielik from his loan spell at Birmingham and head coach Paul Warne recently revealed that a decision on the 24-year-old’s current situation will be made in the not-too-distant future.

Losing Bielik at this stage of the season would be a blow to Birmingham as they could find it extremely difficult to find a decent replacement for him in such a short period of time.

George Hall seals permanent move to Leeds United

A report from TEAMtalk earlier this week suggested Leeds United were close to finalizing a deal for George Hall.

Ahead of Birmingham’s Reading clash, Eustace admitted he doesn’t want Hall to leave in January as he believes he was one of the best young players in the country.

If Leeds offer the midfielder a significant sum of money, there’s a chance Birmingham could part ways with him.

Given that the Blues are unlikely to make any major spending in January under their current ownership, the likelihood of them replacing Hall by signing one person to a permanent deal is extremely slim.

The departures of Hall and Bielik could have a negative impact on Birmingham’s Championship fortunes and as such they will be determined to maintain their services through the summer.
